Walthour Moss Foundation
Southern Pines, North Carolina
The Moss Foundation includes over 5,000 acres exclusively dedicated to equestrian activities. The Moore County Hounds ( fox hunting club), the Moore County carriage driving Club, three day eventers as well as many casual trail riders are active users of the Moss Foundation. Combined with the Carolina Horse Park , the Walthour Moss Foundation make Southern Pines NC a renowned horse region. The Walthour Moss Foundation is an excellent stage for the many Southern Pines horse farms for sale.
The Walthour-Moss Foundation was established by Virginia Walthour Moss and William O. "Pappy" Moss, and because of special provisions, it may continue to grow forever. The Foundation is located in the Sandhills of North Carolina, one mile from the town of Southern Pines.
The Foundation was originally known for its equestrian use, which continues to attract world-class riders and drivers to its sandy lanes and trails. However, the implementation of proper silva culture and ecological practices have made the Walthour-Moss Foundation a true environmental preserve. The almost extinct red-cockaded woodpecker is making a strong comeback on these protected lands. Their habitats are tagged for study and monitoring by naturalists. The land is also home to many other varieties of birds, deer, raccoons, opossums, red and grey foxes, and rare fox squirrels. The Moss Foundation is truly a preserve that is best, enjoyed by old fashioned means - with horse in hand.
The Walthour Moss Foundation is also the backdrop for many private Southern Pines Area Horse Farms. Contact Andrews & James Real Estate to learn about the diverse offering of for sale Moore County Horse Farms and Equestrian Real Estate.
